Students and staff of the Michigan Math and Science Academy joined together with Toledo Area Horizon Science Academies in a cross-regional ceremony, titled “We Will Not Forget.” To commemorate September 11, 2001, each building released 300 balloons at significant times.

The event began with HSA Toledo Downtown, releasing their balloons at 8:45, the time the first tower was struck.  HSA Toledo released their balloons at 9:03, the time of the crash into tower two.  HSA Springfield released their balloons at 9:45, the time The Pentagon was hit. Michigan Math and Science Academy concluded the event with a 10:10 release, honoring the time flight 93 crashed.

Students and staff released balloons to honor the lives of the 2,977 individuals killed in the attack, the 400 police officers and firefighters who gave their lives and the 3,051 children who lost a parent and to send the message that we have not now — and will not ever — forget this tragedy.
