Ms. Bowens’ 11th grade class, at MMSA, dressed up as historic black icons during Black History Month. Students were responsible for researching and representing black figures of history in a living wax museum. They had to memorize the importance of the icon, portray themselves as the person and recite the importance of the icon to the K-5 elementary classes. The younger students really got a kick out of many of the figures as they pressed the “button” to bring the icons to life. It is really important to keep the history of influential black figures alive and celebrated for all students to know. Past and current figures were on display and were acknowledged for their efforts.
