The Science and Engineering Fair of Metropolitan Detroit, established in September 1956, is a nonprofit organization established to give students in the tri-county area (Wayne, Oakland, Macomb Counties) an opportunity to develop and exhibit science fair projects.
Competition is separated into two group – Junior Division (which is 6th, 7th and 8th grade) and Senior Division (9th – 12th Grade. Students are judged within their respective categories (total of 13 categories based on scientific discipline)
The 57th Science & Engineering Fair of Metropolitan Detroit (SEFMD) was held on March 12, 2014 at Cobo Center. Over 1,600 students from schools in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties competed at SEFMD, one of the longest running and largest science fairs in the world.
