The 2013 season of high school girls volleyball has been an uphill battle for the lady cougars. After winning the championship last year, there were high expectations going in to this season. Our cougars did not disappoint. With only one road game on the season, the ladies were able to have the support of home court and the fans to cheer them on to victory. On October 29th, they hosted Cornerstone Academy for the playoff game, which ended with MMSA winning 3 to 1. Up next, on October 30th, the cougars had to travel to Pontiac Academy of Excellence for the championship game. On the way to the game, Coach Allie Langwald stressed the point of taking a deep breath and making sure to remember everything that she had taught them over the past few months. But Pontiac was the first to strike winning the first set; The cougars quickly answered by winning the second set. After going back and forth for sets three and four, the game was tied 2-2. The fifth set would determined who walked away with the first place trophy. With both teams suffering from fatigue, MMSA was able to hold on to win the last set 15 to 12. What a way to end the season and to have any early Halloween treat. Way to go ladies and lets see if we can make next year a cougar three-peat!
